The Love in Laguna series can be read as a standalone and is a fantastic read. This series is a M/M and Tara Lain writes a supreme book with down to earth characters.
Knave of Broken Hearts is about Jim, a construction worker, who works hard, but has a tough time finding the right relationship as something is always missing. Ken is a doctor who has Japanese background and strong family ties, whereas Jim walked away from his family years ago. Each of them has to deal with their family accepting their sexual identities.
Jim is working a job in the same building as the doctor is practicing and sparks fly between them. Jim has denied his true sexually identity and the attraction to the doctor is bringing him out more. Ken feels the attraction immediately and doesn't understand why he is attached to Jim since he's straight or so he thought.
Jim decides to hide his sexually identity, once he finally accepts himself, since he must work with the owner of the building, Constance, who has taken a liking to him. Between Jim's younger brother moving in, Constance's attention, attraction to Ken, he becomes overwhelmed and now is in a life of death situation with his health.
I enjoyed how Tara brought each character to life within the story and the reader got to know each one as the story progressed. The struggle to find one sexually identity is very real within our society and Tara has written excellent story relating to this struggle.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a wonderful M/M love story, with passion and a little humor thrown in there.
I can't wait to read the next book in the Laguna series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
